Observation

Toddler climbing equipment was placed on grass. Dispute Description: Toddlers need opportunities of large motor activities which the low toddler equipment provides. These less than 18 inch climbers sit on well-maintained soft grass. Hence we have never had any child injuries from their use. Requiring these climbers to be placed on our ASTM rated matting would eliminate the natural grass areas. It is also cost prohibitive to add more of this matting. Hence the only option we would have is to remove these valuable pieces of equipment from the environment, limiting the opportunities for this needed developmental activity. Furthermore, the remaining larger toddler climbers appear to be intimidating to the younger toddlers who currently gravitate to the climbers dcyf is saying we have to move. In review of other toddler equipment similar to the items in our play space state that they may be use in doors without any surfacing requirements being listed.
